Starting November 1, 2025, Aadhaar cardholders will find it easier than ever to update their personal details, as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) rolls out a new, simplified update system.

Under the revised Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945— sorry: scratch — under the revised Aadhaar service framework, users can now update name, address, date of birth, gender, and mobile number online through the myAadhaar portal, without needing to visit an enrolment centre.

The overhaul is part of UIDAI’s ongoing drive to improve convenience, accuracy, and integration between Aadhaar and other government databases, especially PAN and tax-linked services.

“This is one of the most user-friendly reforms in the Aadhaar system,” said a senior UIDAI official. “It merges digital convenience with verified data sources, ensuring both speed and security.”

What Changes from November 1

The new Aadhaar update framework divides updates into two broad categories — demographic (name, date of birth, address, gender, and mobile number) and biometric (fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs).

Demographic updates can now be completed entirely online, provided the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active for OTP verification.
Biometric updates, however, will continue to require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

UIDAI has also announced a revised fee structure effective November 1:

Type of UpdateDescriptionFee / Condition
BiometricFingerprint, iris, or photoFree between age 5–7 and 15–17; ₹125 for others
DemographicName, DOB, address, gender, mobile, emailFree if done with biometric update; ₹75 if separate
Document UploadProof of identity or addressFree via myAadhaar till June 14, 2026; ₹75 at centres

PAN Linking: A Crucial Reminder

Alongside the update rollout, UIDAI has reiterated the December 31, 2025 deadline for Aadhaar–PAN linkage.
Failure to complete the linkage may result in PAN deactivation, affecting tax filings, KYC verification, and financial transactions.

Financial institutions have also been instructed to integrate Aadhaar authentication for real-time verification and service delivery.

Officials have urged cardholders to verify their Aadhaar-linked mobile number, update address details if needed, and use only the official myAadhaar portal to avoid falling prey to fake update websites.

A Step Toward Unified Digital Governance

Experts say the reform is part of a larger national effort to digitize citizen services, streamline record-keeping, and reduce in-person bureaucracy.
By integrating Aadhaar verification with government databases, UIDAI aims to improve data reliability across public services — from welfare benefits to financial inclusion programs.

“The new Aadhaar update system is a gateway to cleaner, interoperable digital identities,” said a policy analyst at NITI Aayog. “But its success will depend on citizens’ awareness and data accuracy.”

Users can check update options, upload documents, and track request status using the Update Request Number (URN) on the myAadhaar portal.
