A missing BAMS doctor in Lucknow is accused of cheating 15 to 20 people of crores by promising government jobs.

Police in Lucknow are searching for Satyaratna Singh, a BAMS doctor who went missing from the Madiyaon area on October 5 and is accused of allegedly collecting money from unemployed youths and others by promising jobs at the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and other government departments. Investigators suspect he may have staged a kidnapping to escape pressure from people demanding refunds, although all aspects of the case remain under investigation.

Why did the doctor go missing?

According to police, Singh left his home in a car on October 5 but did not return. His wife, Dr Shipra, tried to contact him, but his mobile phone was switched off. After making inquiries with relatives and acquaintances, the family approached the police, who launched a search.

During the investigation, police traced the doctor’s last known mobile phone location to an area near Purnia Crossing. His phone was reportedly switched off late Monday night and has not been switched on since.

With assistance from Dr Shipra, police recovered the car near Purnia Crossing. However, Singh remained untraceable, prompting teams to conduct raids at locations where he might be found.

Investigators are examining whether his disappearance is connected to the alleged financial dealings and growing pressure from people seeking the return of their money.

What did the acquaintance report about a possible kidnapping?

Dr Shipra told police that an acquaintance, Prakhar Pandey, visited their home and said Singh had called him claiming that two Scorpio SUVs were following him in the Hazrat Ganj area.

Pandey reportedly rushed to Hazrat Ganj after receiving the call but could not locate Singh or the vehicles allegedly following him. The doctor’s phone was also switched off.

Following the incident, Dr Shipra filed a complaint against Pandey and some unidentified individuals. Police registered a kidnapping case and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s disappearance.

However, information gathered during the investigation subsequently raised suspicions about alleged financial fraud. Police are now examining the kidnapping complaint alongside allegations that Singh collected money by promising government jobs.

How much money did the doctor allegedly collect?

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Aliganj, Shashi Prakash Mishra, said Singh had allegedly taken ₹7.5 lakh from Pandey on the promise of arranging a job for one of his family members.

Police suspect that several other people may also have paid money to the doctor after being promised appointments at the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and other departments. The number of alleged victims is estimated at 15 to 20, while the total amount involved is claimed to run into crores of rupees.

According to the allegations, the promised appointments did not materialise, prompting those who had paid money to demand refunds. Investigators suspect that the mounting pressure may have contributed to Singh’s disappearance.

Police have yet to establish the full scale of the alleged fraud, and the claims against the doctor remain unverified.

What are police investigating now?

The Madiyaon police are continuing efforts to trace Singh and establish the circumstances of his disappearance. Investigators are examining his last known mobile phone location, the recovery of his vehicle and statements from people associated with him.

Police are also trying to determine how many people allegedly paid Singh for promised jobs, the total amount collected and whether anyone else was involved in the suspected fraud.

The possibility that the reported kidnapping was fabricated remains an investigative theory rather than an established fact. Further details are expected to emerge once Singh is located and questioned by police.

For now, the investigation is focused on both his disappearance and the allegations of financial fraud, with authorities seeking to establish the sequence of events and verify the claims made by those involved.
