LUCKNOW: In a major administrative shake-up, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday transferred 20 Indian Police Service officers, replacing the police chiefs of 11 districts across the state. The widespread realignment altered district command structures in Jaunpur, Muzaffarnagar, Barabanki, Hapur, and Mau, while also introducing key personnel adjustments across the Lucknow and Prayagraj police commissionerates and state police headquarters.
New Chiefs Appointed Across Key Districts
Under the revised postings, Raveena Tyagi, who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Lucknow Commissionerate, has been appointed the Superintendent of Police for Barabanki. She replaces Arpit Vijayvargiya, who now moves to Lucknow to take charge as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Madhuban Kumar Singh, formerly the City Superintendent of Police in Azamgarh, has taken over as the police chief of Hapur. Basti SP Yashveer Singh has been posted as SP Jaunpur, replacing Kunwar Anupam Singh, who has been moved to the PAC Headquarters in Lucknow.
In western Uttar Pradesh, Baghpat SP Suraj Kumar Rai has been named the new Senior Superintendent of Police for Muzaffarnagar, replacing Sanjay Kumar, who has been appointed Commandant of the 4th Battalion PAC in Prayagraj. Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, previously serving as Commandant of the 4th Battalion PAC in Prayagraj, will take over as the new police chief of Mau, replacing Kamlesh Bahadur, who has been transferred to the DGP Headquarters as SP, Public Grievances.
Chain of Transfers Across Eastern and Central Belts
The reshuffle triggered an extensive series of lateral postings across multiple territorial zones. Omveer Singh has been moved from Ballia to head the Basti district police, while Ghazipur SP Eeraj Raja has been reassigned to take charge of Ballia. Jalaun SP Vinay Kumar Singh has been shifted to head the Ghazipur police force, and Suresh Chandra Rawat, who was posted in Mathura, has been appointed as the new SP of Jalaun.
Additional adjustments were executed across urban jurisdictions and subordinate administrative tiers. Hapur SP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh has been transferred to the Prayagraj Police Commissionerate as Deputy Commissioner of Police. In another lateral swap, Azamgarh Rural SP Chirag Jain has been named SP City in Bareilly, while Bareilly City SP Manush Pareek has moved to Azamgarh to assume charge as SP City.
At the state headquarters level, DGP Staff Officer Purnendu Singh has been appointed SP of Baghpat, and Hardoi Assistant SP Alok Raj Narayan has been reassigned as Additional SP of Mathura.
Operational Scrutiny and Headquarters Realignment
While the official transfer order cited administrative requirements without detailing specific causes, the overhaul follows recent operational controversies and complaints regarding field performance. In Muzaffarnagar, questions regarding the administration of Sanjay Kumar preceded his transfer to the PAC.
In Hapur, concerns over inter-departmental coordination and allegations of local police corruption had been raised during the tenure of Kunwar Gyananjay Singh.
Scrutiny had similarly mounted in Jaunpur over the local administration’s handling of the Karanja Kala shooting and murder case in September, which had earlier prompted disciplinary actions against 10 personnel and the shifting of several station officers.
Integrity concerns deepened on September 24 following the arrest of local police personnel in connection with a robbery and extortion case, culminating in the removal of Kunwar Anupam Singh.
Alongside district changes, senior management at the state level was restructured: ADG Traffic and Road Safety A. Satish Ganesh was relieved of his additional charge of Crime, which has now been handed to ADG Technical Services Bhagwan S. Srivastava.
