New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an executive engineer of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh in connection with the allotment of a ground for Ramleela at Nand Nagri in the Wazirabad area of Delhi. The agency also recovered ₹41 lakh in cash during a subsequent search of the accused officer’s residence.
The CBI had registered a case on September 19 following a complaint alleging that the engineer demanded ₹2.5 lakh from the complainant for facilitating the allotment of the ground. According to the agency, the accused had agreed to receive the alleged bribe in two instalments.

CBI Lays Trap After Bribery Complaint
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on September 19 to verify the allegations and catch the accused during the transaction.
According to the agency, the executive engineer was caught while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹1 lakh from the complainant. The amount was described as the first instalment of the ₹2.5 lakh bribe allegedly sought for allotment of the Ramleela ground.
The officer was subsequently arrested by the CBI. The alleged demand and acceptance of money are now part of the investigation being carried out by the central agency.
₹41 Lakh Cash Recovered During House Search
Following the arrest, CBI officials searched the residence of the accused executive engineer.
During the search, the agency recovered ₹41 lakh in cash. The money was seized as investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery case.
The recovery significantly exceeded the ₹1 lakh allegedly accepted during the trap operation. The agency has not disclosed further details regarding the source of the ₹41 lakh recovered from the residence.
Investigation Into Case Continues
The case centres on allegations that the DUSIB executive engineer demanded money from the complainant in return for allotment of a ground for Ramleela at Nand Nagri.
The CBI registered the case after receiving the complaint and subsequently conducted the trap operation in which the officer was allegedly caught accepting the first instalment.
Further investigation is underway into the alleged bribery demand, the cash recovered during the residential search and other circumstances connected with the case.
