New Delhi: A suspected gang allegedly attempted to enter a businessman’s house in Delhi’s Prashant Vihar area by posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, in a case bearing similarities to the Bollywood film Special 26. Police have arrested two people, including alleged gang leader Asifa alias Pooja, in connection with the incident. The gang is suspected to have involved eight to ten members who arrived at the businessman’s residence on Saturday, allegedly posing as CBI officials.
According to police, the incident took place at a residence in D-Block, Prashant Vihar, while a woman was alone at home. The suspects allegedly claimed that they were CBI officers and attempted to gain entry by presenting the purported raid as an official investigation. To make their claims appear credible, they allegedly sent documents related to the purported CBI raid to the family through WhatsApp.

Woman Suspected Something Was Wrong
The woman reportedly became suspicious when the alleged officers insisted on entering the house. Instead of allowing them inside, she asked them to produce their official identity cards.
She also demanded to see the search warrant and court-related documents authorising the alleged raid. Police said the suspects were unable to immediately provide convincing documents after being questioned by the woman.
The suspects allegedly continued arguing with her while claiming that they would produce their identity cards. They remained outside the house for more than an hour. As the woman became increasingly suspicious and prepared to alert the police, the suspects allegedly realised that their plan could be exposed.
They subsequently fled the location.
Fake Documents Allegedly Sent Through WhatsApp
Investigators have found that the suspects allegedly used fabricated government documents to create the impression of an authorised CBI operation. The documents sent through WhatsApp were reportedly designed to make the alleged raid appear genuine.
Police are now investigating who prepared the documents, what information was used to create them and whether the gang had previously targeted other individuals or businessmen using a similar method.
Investigators are also examining whether the documents were prepared specifically for the businessman’s residence and whether members of the gang had prior information about the family.
CCTV and Technical Investigation Led Police to Suspects
Following the woman’s complaint, Rohini district police launched an investigation. Teams examined CCTV footage from the area and traced the movements of the suspects and the vehicles allegedly used during the attempted operation.
Police also analysed technical evidence gathered during the investigation to identify the people allegedly involved. Based on the information collected, teams tracked the suspects and conducted searches at their suspected locations.
Police confirmed on Sunday that Asifa alias Pooja and another suspect had been arrested. They are being questioned to identify the other members of the alleged gang and establish their respective roles in the attempted crime.
Police Probe Whether House Was Recce’d Earlier
Investigators are also examining how the suspects allegedly obtained information about the businessman and his family. Police are trying to determine whether the house had been surveyed in advance and whether the gang knew that only a woman would be present when they arrived.
The investigation is also focused on identifying the source of the alleged fake CBI identity and documents. Police are examining whether the gang had access to people or resources capable of creating documents resembling official investigation papers.
The role of the arrested suspects in previous incidents is also being verified.
Search for Remaining Gang Members Underway
The immediate priority for investigators is to identify and arrest the other suspects who allegedly fled the scene. Police are also trying to establish whether the group had planned to steal cash, jewellery or other valuables from the residence after gaining entry under the pretext of a CBI search.
The case appears, at this stage, to involve a planned attempt to gain access to a private residence by impersonating government officials. However, the exact objective of the alleged operation, the involvement of other people and any connection with similar incidents will become clearer as the investigation progresses.
