New Delhi: OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has launched a new initiative to accelerate scientific research by providing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to researchers worldwide. Under the programme, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers associated with selected academic institutions will receive free access to the company’s most advanced AI model, GPT-5.6 Sol Pro.
According to OpenAI, the initiative aims to strengthen academic research and provide scientists with access to cutting-edge AI tools. The company intends to use its frontier AI model for advanced research and discoveries in areas such as biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, and physics.
As part of the programme, free access to the GPT-5.6 Sol Pro model will be provided until the end of 2027. Nearly one lakh researchers from selected academic institutions around the world are expected to benefit from the initiative.
