Delhi University (DU) has issued a strict warning against the submission of fake, forged, or Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated documents during the undergraduate (UG) admission process for the 2026–27 academic session. The university stated that all documents uploaded through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) will undergo rigorous verification. If any certificate is found to be fabricated, digitally manipulated, or created using AI tools, the candidate’s admission may be cancelled immediately. The university also warned that legal action could be initiated against such applicants, and the admission fee paid by them may not be refunded.
DU has advised all applicants to upload only genuine documents issued by the competent authorities. The university said that the use of forged certificates, digitally edited records, or AI-assisted document manipulation will be treated as a serious violation of the admission process. It emphasized that a multi-level verification mechanism has been put in place to ensure transparency, fairness, and the admission of only eligible candidates.
According to the university, the verification process will include detailed scrutiny of Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, along with certificates related to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and other reservation categories. If any document is found to have been altered, forged, edited through image-processing software, or generated using AI tools, the application may be rejected and the admission cancelled.
The university further clarified that document verification will not be limited to the central admission authorities. Individual colleges will also independently verify the credentials submitted by candidates. Applicants may be required to produce their original certificates during the verification process. Therefore, students have been advised to keep all original documents readily available for inspection whenever required.
DU has specifically cautioned students against modifying mark sheets, caste certificates, income certificates, disability certificates, or any other official documents using AI tools or photo-editing software. The university stressed that every detail mentioned in the uploaded documents must match the official records maintained by the issuing authorities. Providing false information or submitting forged documents could have long-term academic as well as legal consequences for the applicant.
The university reiterated that undergraduate admissions for the 2026–27 academic session are being conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS), with seat allocation based on candidates’ CUET UG 2026 scores. Applicants have been advised to regularly monitor the official DU admission portal for updates regarding seat allotment, document verification schedules, admission deadlines, and other important notifications.
According to the Future Crime Research Foundation, the increasing availability of AI-powered image editing and generative technologies has led to a rise in attempts to forge academic certificates, identity documents, and other official records. Experts note that educational institutions should complement traditional verification methods with digital forensic techniques, metadata analysis, and advanced document authentication systems to detect sophisticated digital manipulation at an early stage.
Experts have also advised students to avoid using third-party agents, online editing services, or AI tools to modify any admission-related documents. Only original, authentic, and officially issued certificates should be submitted during the admission process. If any document contains an error, applicants should obtain an officially corrected version from the concerned board, university, or issuing authority instead of attempting to alter it digitally, as unauthorized modifications may result in admission cancellation and legal consequences.
