New Delhi: The Delhi government has suspended seven Health Department personnel, including five pharmacists and two officials, following alleged irregularities in a ₹650 crore medical equipment and supplies procurement case. The action came after inspections at stores operated by the Central Procurement Agency reportedly uncovered serious lapses in procurement, storage and inventory management.

Seven Staff Suspended

According to officials, the alleged irregularities relate to procurement of surgical materials, medical equipment and other healthcare supplies for government hospitals through the Central Procurement Agency. Inspections reportedly found deficiencies in stock handling, inventory records and procurement procedures.

The government said the suspensions are part of efforts to fix accountability while the investigation continues. The identities of the suspended personnel have not been officially disclosed.

Procurement Process Under Scanner

Investigators are examining alleged manipulation of tender procedures, purchases at prices higher than market rates, procurement beyond actual requirements and possible undue benefits to selected vendors.

Procurement files, approvals, tender records, supply documents, payment details and electronic records are being scrutinised to determine whether established procedures were violated.

Earlier Action In Case

The case has already seen earlier action by investigators. Former Central Procurement Agency head Dr. Vinod Kumar Ranga was previously arrested in connection with the alleged scam. The then Director General of Health Services, Dr. Vatsala Aggarwal, had also been suspended earlier.

Investigators are also questioning vendors associated with the procurement process and examining whether any officials or private suppliers played a role in alleged overpricing, improper approvals or irregular supply orders.

Probe Still Underway

Officials said additional disciplinary or legal action may follow if further evidence emerges. Authorities are examining financial documents, procurement records and vendor-linked transactions to determine the full extent of the suspected scam.

The Delhi government has reiterated that any lapse involving public procurement or misuse of government resources will be dealt with strictly.
