FSSAI Issues Notice to Nestle India Over Alleged Maggi Complaint

FSSAI issued notices to Nestle India, KFC, Flipkart India and Open Secret after taking cognisance of food safety complaints circulating on social media platforms.

FSSAI Seeks Details on Alleged Maggi Complaint

FSSAI took cognisance of complaints circulating on social media platforms and sought action taken reports from multiple companies, including Nestle India, KFC, Flipkart India and Open Secret.

In Nestle India’s case, the regulator issued a notice regarding the alleged detection of insect or larvae in a Maggi packet. FSSAI has sought source and vendor details, internal quality check logs of the batch concerned, information on corrective measures taken to remove such products from the supply chain, and steps implemented to prevent recurrence.

The regulator’s inquiry forms part of a broader review of complaints that surfaced on social media.

Nestle Rejects Allegations, Cites Quality Checks

Responding to the notice, Nestle India categorically rejected the allegations relating to infestation in Maggi noodles. The company stated that it had not yet received the complainant’s sample because the account was reportedly unreachable.

Nestle India said it had already submitted a detailed representation to the authorities, supported by quality records from the batch and market samples, along with test reports.

The company further stated that it maintains stringent quality and food safety standards across its manufacturing operations and remains fully transparent with authorities. It added that quality analysis conducted on batch and market samples, along with testing by an FSSAI-accredited laboratory, confirmed compliance with quality standards and found no evidence of infestation.

Other Companies Also Receive Notices

FSSAI also issued notices to Flipkart India and Open Secret over allegations that Open Secret Un-junked Dates delivered through Flipkart Minutes contained insects.

The regulator sought internal quality check logs for the relevant period, details of corrective measures undertaken and information on preventive steps aimed at avoiding similar incidents in the future.

Separately, FSSAI issued a notice to KFC concerning alleged hygiene issues at its outlet in MVR Mall, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. The regulator asked the food business operator to identify and report deficiencies related to hygiene, sanitation, food handling, storage, waste management, pest control and employee hygiene. It also sought details of corrective and preventive actions along with supporting documentary evidence.

The regulator’s actions follow scrutiny of complaints that surfaced on social media platforms. Further details from the companies and the regulator are awaited.
