The Central Bureau of Investigation, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Indian Embassy in Thailand, has secured the deportation of wanted fugitive Ganesh Balaso Kale from Thailand to India.

The operation was executed in connection with an ongoing transnational cyber fraud case, officials announced on Thursday. Upon his arrival in Mumbai, Kale was immediately taken into custody by officials from the Cyber Cell of the Maharashtra Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Modus Operandi of the Online Job Fraud

According to the CBI, Kale was wanted for his role in a cybercrime case where victims were allegedly lured through fraudulent offers of online part-time jobs. Fraudsters persuaded these individuals to make monetary deposits under the guise of investments before eventually defrauding them of their funds. Investigators revealed that the accused operated a structured network of cyber financial criminals to systematically target unsuspecting citizens.

Coordination of Bank Accounts and Fake SIM Cards

The investigation established that Kale used multiple unsuspecting individuals to facilitate the movement of illicit funds. He allegedly promised interest and commissions to these people in exchange for allowing his network to use their personal bank accounts to transfer the proceeds of the crime. The agency further stated that Kale utilized these accounts to cheat multiple victims, played a key role in coordinating the fraudulent operations, and directed co-conspirators to arrange mobile phones and procure fake SIM cards to execute the cyber offences.

Tracking and Detaining the Fugitive Through Interpol

The accused was successfully traced in Thailand following an Interpol Red Notice issued against him. Thai authorities acted on the international alert and detained Kale in Bangkok on May 24, 2026. Following formal legal proceedings and close coordination between Indian and Thai authorities, the fugitive was deported to India on June 10, 2026. CBI officials noted that the swift operation took approximately 20 days from the publication of the Interpol Red Corner Notice in May 2026 to Kale being brought back to India, reflecting effective international cooperation among law enforcement agencies.
