According to officials, cybercriminals are increasingly using fake identities, phishing links, fraudulent customer-care numbers, and impersonation tactics to steal banking credentials and digital payment information from victims. The advisory comes amid growing concerns over the rapid expansion of cyber-enabled financial fraud cases reported across India.
Cyber Police Flag Multiple Online Scam Techniques
The Cyber Crime Wing warned that fraudsters are targeting people through fake investment offers, impersonation calls, fraudulent job schemes, social media account takeovers, and deceptive online shopping advertisements. Investigators said scammers frequently pose as bank officials, police officers, customer support agents, or government representatives to gain victims’ trust.
Officials also highlighted the misuse of messaging applications and social media platforms for distributing malicious links and fake payment requests. Citizens were advised not to share OTPs, banking details, passwords, UPI PINs, or confidential financial information with unknown individuals.
According to the advisory, cybercriminals often create panic or urgency to pressure victims into transferring money quickly before they can verify the authenticity of the request.

Public Asked to Verify Links, Calls and Payment Requests
The Cyber Crime Wing urged people to verify suspicious calls and avoid clicking on unknown links received through SMS, email, or messaging applications. Authorities cautioned users against downloading remote-access applications or screen-sharing software at the request of unknown callers claiming to offer technical assistance.
Investigators stated that several recent fraud cases involved fake customer-care numbers displayed through manipulated internet searches and social media advertisements. Victims were allegedly tricked into revealing banking credentials or authorising fraudulent transactions.
Police also advised users to activate security features such as two-factor authentication and regularly monitor bank account activity for unauthorised transactions.
Authorities Encourage Immediate Cybercrime Reporting
The advisory urged victims of cyber fraud to immediately report incidents through the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and the official cybercrime reporting portal. Officials said early reporting improves the chances of freezing suspicious transactions and tracing fraudulent financial transfers.
The Cyber Crime Wing also encouraged citizens to spread awareness among elderly individuals, students, and first-time digital payment users who are often targeted by online fraudsters.
Authorities stated that cyber awareness and timely reporting remain critical tools in preventing financial losses and disrupting cyber fraud networks operating through digital platforms.
Rising Cyber Fraud Cases Trigger Public Awareness Push
Law enforcement agencies across India have intensified awareness campaigns as cybercriminals increasingly exploit digital banking systems, online marketplaces, and communication platforms to target victims. Investigators say fraudsters frequently rely on social engineering techniques rather than advanced hacking methods to deceive users.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Crime Wing said it will continue conducting awareness drives, monitoring cyber fraud patterns, and coordinating with financial institutions and digital service providers to combat online crime and protect citizens from emerging cyber threats.
