The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against the online betting app ‘MagicWin’, reportedly operated by Pakistani nationals. A total of 14 individuals and companies have been named as accused in the case. This action comes in the wake of India’s 2025 ban on real-money online gaming and betting, which was implemented to safeguard financial and social security.
According to ED, the MagicWin app allowed users to place bets on cricket, football, tennis, and horse racing, among other sports. In addition, the platform offered live streaming, scorecards, and online casino games such as baccarat, poker, blackjack, and roulette.

Pakistan-Linked Platform
MagicWin Sports Limited owns the brand portal and is registered in the United Kingdom. ED officials stated that Pakistani nationals Gulab Harji Mal and Omesh Kumar Gurnani are directors of the company and are reportedly based in the United Arab Emirates. The agency alleged that the portal and mobile app functioned as a betting exchange, facilitating all types of sports betting and gambling for entertainment.
Investigations revealed that fake accounts were used for financial transactions, and the revenue generated from platform activities was transferred via hawala and cryptocurrencies. Several celebrities and social media influencers promoted the app, which further accelerated its reach and financial operations.
Live Casino and Interactive Gaming
ED also noted that MagicWin offered live casino services. The games were conducted by live dealers, not automated bots, providing users with a real-time betting and gaming experience, which posed a financial risk, particularly to young users.
Chargesheet and Legal Proceedings
The chargesheet was filed on January 15 in the Special PMLA Court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The case is linked to an FIR by Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police, which involves allegations of unauthorised hosting, streaming, and broadcasting of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches.
Officials stated that this action represents a critical step to enforce India’s online gaming and betting laws and to protect the hard-earned money of young citizens.
Social and Financial Impact
Experts believe that online betting apps pose risks to both economic security and social stability. Platforms targeting young audiences demand strict legal frameworks and cyber monitoring. ED’s action sends a clear message that illegal online gaming and betting will not be tolerated.
Analysts further note that this move will impact the transparency of global online gaming networks and financial transactions. The action not only ensures legal compliance but also signals strong measures to protect digital and economic security in India.
