A shocking case of online fraud has surfaced in Bengaluru, where a 42-year-old man was duped of over ₹1.29 crore after being lured into investing through a dating app connection. The victim, Jagadish C, was approached on Quack Quack, a dating platform, by alleged fraudsters who gradually gained his trust and convinced him to invest in a fake trading website promising high returns from international stock markets.
Fraudster’s Manipulation and False Promises Exposed
One of the accused, Meghana Reddy, reportedly played a crucial role in deceiving Jagadish by claiming she wanted to build an old-age home in the victim’s father’s name. This emotional appeal led Jagadish to transfer the huge sum of money using multiple RTGS and NEFT transactions on November 5 and 6. However, after the transfers, the promised profits never came, and the accused stopped all communication, exposing the scam.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the complaint lodged by Jagadish, Bengaluru’s North CEN Cybercrime unit launched a detailed investigation. The accused have been booked under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Authorities are actively tracing digital evidence to identify the fraudsters and recover the stolen amount.
