The doctor was first targeted through WhatsApp calls by fraudsters posing as police officials. Brandishing forged documents and fabricated FIRs, they accused her of being linked to a criminal case. To avoid arrest, she was coerced into a “digital arrest” — forced to remain on continuous video calls under surveillance — and pressured to transfer ₹6.60 lakh from her pension account.

Family members revealed that the doctor grew increasingly distressed as the ordeal continued. Constant intimidation, combined with the loss of her savings, left her devastated. Despite attempts by her loved ones to intervene, the psychological weight of the scam proved fatal.
