Hyderabad — The coastal city of Visakhapatnam is set to make a dramatic entry onto India’s digital map. Andhra Pradesh officials announced plans for a data centre with a capacity of one gigawatt, backed by an investment of more than ₹50,000 crore.
Google will be a partner in the project, which aims to provide faster and more reliable services for Google Cloud, YouTube, Search, and Android users. The announcement was made by the state’s information technology minister during a business forum in London, who described Visakhapatnam as a future hub for digital infrastructure.

Powered by Renewable Energy
Officials emphasized that the facility will run entirely on renewable sources. Andhra Pradesh, they said, is the only state in India with a combination of solar, wind, and pumped storage resources, enabling 100 per cent green energy to power the data centre.
Rising Investment Hub
Over the past 15 months, Andhra Pradesh has attracted investments worth more than ₹1.1 lakh crore, including commitments from global corporations such as Rolls-Royce, ArcelorMittal and the Hinduja Group.
The state government has set a long-term goal: to transform Andhra Pradesh into a ₹200 trillion economy by 2047, with semiconductors, renewable energy and artificial intelligence playing central roles.
