The Delhi Police Vigilance Unit has registered two separate corruption cases against three personnel of the Hari Nagar Police Station in West Delhi, exposing fresh allegations of extortion and abuse of power within the ranks.
According to officials, Woman Sub-Inspector Vijeta Gautam, Constable Sanjay, and Head Constable Rakesh Kumar are under investigation after two separate complainants accused them of demanding hefty bribes in exchange for dropping police action. Both cases have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, with provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, also invoked in one of the FIRs.

Aadhaar, PAN Misuse Case Leads to Extortion Allegations
In the first case, a resident of Naraina village said he was called to the police station in connection with suspected misuse of his Aadhaar and PAN details in a Paytm Agent Merchant KYC account. During questioning, the officers allegedly demanded ₹50,000, threatening him with false implication in the ongoing probe if he refused.
The Vigilance Branch enquiry reportedly substantiated the allegations of harassment and bribery. Following its findings, a case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Bribe Demand in Instagram Account Complaint
In another case, a woman from Uttam Nagar alleged that the same officers took ₹1.85 lakh from her, promising to dismiss an inquiry linked to a fake Instagram account allegedly connected to her husband. Despite payment, the complainant stated that the officers sought additional bribes.
The Vigilance Unit confirmed her allegations and registered a second FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Police Response and Ongoing Probe
Senior police officials have said both cases are now under investigation, and appropriate action will follow once inquiry reports are completed. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has issued a fresh appeal urging citizens to report corruption through its dedicated Vigilance Helpline Number, 1064.
The cases come at a time when the force is under increasing public scrutiny for accountability and transparency. Observers say the twin cases highlight systemic vulnerabilities in the policing structure, particularly at the level of public-facing officers, where allegations of misuse of authority often surface but rarely reach the stage of formal registration.
