Real-Time Routing and Enhanced Capabilities
A key innovation in ChatGPT-5 is its real-time router. This sophisticated system dynamically decides which of the two internal models to use based on the complexity and type of the conversation, user intent, and tool needs. The router is continuously trained using real-time feedback, such as when users switch models or their preference rates for responses, allowing it to improve its decision-making over time. Additionally, when usage limits are reached, a “mini version” of each model takes over to handle remaining queries.
Phased Rollout to All Users
The rollout of ChatGPT-5 is being conducted in phases to ensure a smooth transition. The new model is now available to all users, including those on the Plus, Pro, Team, and Free tiers. Paid subscribers can use the upgraded version without restrictions and will also gain access to GPT-5 Pro. Free users, however, will have a usage limit, and once that limit is reached, their service will revert to GPT-5 mini. Access for Enterprise and Edu customers is scheduled to be available in one week.
