The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Wednesday raided a manufacturing unit in Greater Noida and seized ₹50 lakh worth of electrical cables that were being produced and stored without proper licensing or quality compliance. The raid was conducted at Kailashi Global Industries, located in Site-C, Surajpur Industrial Area.
According to officials, the unit was operating in violation of safety norms and manufacturing cross-linked polyethylene insulated PVC sheathed cables without BIS certification, thereby potentially endangering public safety. The factory owner, identified as Yash Agrawal, is now facing legal action under applicable BIS regulations.

Alleged Safety Violations and Prior Warnings
The raid was initiated following repeated reports received by BIS headquarters regarding standard violations at the factory. According to BIS Director Vikrant Kumar, the company had been producing both cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cables and heavy-duty PVC insulated electric cables over several months.
“These cables are meant to meet stringent safety and quality standards. Without BIS certification, their use poses a serious threat to consumer safety,” Kumar stated.
Despite multiple warnings and internal surveillance, the factory continued to operate without the mandatory BIS license, which is required for the production and distribution of such critical electrical components.
The BIS team carried out a discreet investigation to verify the allegations before conducting the raid. On confirming the violations, officials coordinated with local police to launch the operation.
Upon entering the premises, officials reportedly witnessed chaos, with some employees attempting to flee or hide within the factory. The team managed to secure the location and conduct a full inspection.

Massive Seizure of Non-Compliant Cables
Deputy Director Vishnu Dayal Jat, who led the raid, confirmed that the team seized 37,650 meters of substandard and non-compliant cable stock, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh. These cables lacked the necessary certification and were deemed unfit for market circulation.
The seized inventory included stockpiles of XLPE insulated PVC cables, stored in violation of safety norms. The BIS team believes these were intended for sale in commercial and residential projects across Uttar Pradesh and possibly beyond.
Alongside Vishnu Dayal Jat, the inspection team included Assistant Directors Rasujit Chongdar, Akash Kumar Yadav, Deepak Kumar, Saurabh Bhati, and Rambhool. Legal notices have been issued to the factory owner, and further proceedings are underway.
Authorities confirmed that the seizure was one of the largest in the region in recent times related to uncertified cable manufacturing. The raid has brought renewed focus on electrical safety and the role of compliance in preventing hazards such as short circuits, equipment damage, and potential fire outbreaks.
