Trust Betrayed: How a Reputed Doctor Became the Victim

A high-profile doctor from Delhi has become the latest victim of a deeply embedded scam operating within India’s private medical college admission system. Dr. Girish Gupta, a resident of Rohini Sector-15 and a respected name in medical circles, alleged that he was defrauded of ₹85 lakh by two individuals promising his daughter admission into a prestigious private medical college.

The transaction, which began in 2022, was facilitated by a man named Pankaj Goyal, a resident of Meerut, who introduced Dr. Gupta to the prime accused, Rahul Mittal. Claiming strong ties with medical college managements and political connections, Rahul convinced Dr. Gupta of a guaranteed seat. The money was allegedly handed over in cash in Noida’s Sector-63, in the presence of Pankaj, who was made a witness to the transaction.

From Hope to Horror: When Promises Turned to Threats

The nightmare didn’t end with the undelivered admission. Dr. Gupta claimed that once he began questioning Rahul about the admission status or asked for the money back, the tone changed drastically. The man who once promised influence and assurance allegedly turned threatening.

According to the police complaint, Dr. Gupta began receiving life threats from the accused, pushing the already anxious family into severe psychological distress. Taking the matter to the Police Commissioner of Noida, Dr. Gupta managed to get an FIR lodged at Sector-63 Police Station. The accused have not yet been arrested, but the investigation is actively underway.

The Dirty Business of Medical Admissions

This incident underscores a larger, systemic issue plaguing Indian medical education, a shadow network of admission “consultants,” many of whom operate without scrutiny. With demand for medical seats far outstripping supply, families are easy targets for fraudsters exploiting their desperation.

The use of cash payments, verbal assurances, and claims of political influence are textbook tactics of such operations, say experts. As per police sources, call records, bank statements, and other forensic evidence are being reviewed. Statements from Pankaj Goyal, who acted as an intermediary, are being cross-verified with other material.
