A bank account located in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as a central node in a multi-state cyber fraud network, receiving suspicious transactions amounting to over 10.39 lakh rupees linked to cybercrime cases across 13 states. Following actionable inputs provided by the Financial Intelligence Unit under the Union Finance Ministry, local police have registered a criminal case against the account holder, identified as Jitendra Kumar, who is currently evading arrest. Investigators revealed that the Canara Bank account was utilized to consolidate illicit proceeds from victims nationwide before transferring the funds to secondary accounts.
Layered Transactions Trace Cyber Loot Across Multiple States
A detailed examination by the Hathras Cyber Cell matched account transactions with complaints logged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The inquiry established direct ties to 13 distinct cyber fraud complaints originating from states including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka. Rather than receiving direct victim deposits, the account functioned as a destination for layer-two and layer-three fund transfers. This layering technique is systematically deployed by syndicated cybercrime networks to obscure the audit trail, route money through multiple intermediary accounts, and conceal the primary beneficiaries and originators of the stolen capital.
Financial Intelligence Unit Report Uncovers Suspicious Inflows
The illicit inflows identified within the Canara Bank account totaled exactly 10,39,737 rupees, routed through multiple structured tranches. Among the larger identified transfers, 1.50 lakh rupees were linked directly to a fraud complaint registered in Hyderabad. Another transaction of 1.14 lakh rupees was traced to a complaint filed in Delhi, while an additional deposit of one lakh rupees corresponded to an incident reported in the Kukatpally area of Telangana. Karnataka accounted for the largest share of targeted actions, with six separate cyber fraud complaints registered across different districts tying back to the Hathras account, prompting authorities to widen the scope of the financial investigation.
Police Search for Absconding Account Holder in Mule Account Probe
Inspector Aman Kumar Vaish of the Cyber Cell stated that the inquiry confirmed the account holder’s direct involvement in cyber fraud facilitation. Jitendra Kumar is accused of assisting the criminal network by receiving, moving, and dispersing illicit proceeds, likely in exchange for financial commissions. Law enforcement officials suspect the account was operated as a classic money mule facility within an organized criminal infrastructure. Police have launched a search to apprehend Kumar, while forensic teams analyze downstream account ledgers to track further transfers, identify the senders of the defrauded funds, and establish the exact circumstances under which the bank credentials were surrendered to the syndicate.
