Several victims of an alleged ₹3 crore overseas employment fraud staged a protest at the Collectorate premises in Gopalganj on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and the recovery of their money. The demonstrators alleged that a recruitment office operating near Kailash Hotel on Jadopur Road targeted job seekers from Gopalganj and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, collecting large sums under the pretext of securing foreign employment before reneging on the promises.

Complainants Cite Delay Following October 15 FIR

According to victims Chaneshwar Ram, Rohit Tiwari, Nitesh Tiwari, and Virendra Sharma, a formal First Information Report was registered at the Town Police Station on October 15. The complainants stated that operators and staff at the Jadopur Road facility lured prospective workers with assurances of well-paying jobs, attractive salaries, and a secure livelihood abroad.

Despite handing over approximately ₹3 crore across numerous applicants, the victims found that no overseas travel or placement arrangements materialized, nor were their funds returned. Frustrated by what they described as an absence of concrete progress following the formal registration of the case, the affected individuals gathered at the administrative headquarters to stage a sit-in demonstration.

Protesters Demand Administrative Action and Refunds

During the demonstration at the Collectorate, the victims urged district authorities to expedite the pending investigation and initiate swift recovery proceedings. The protesters sought an audience with the Superintendent of Police to convey their grievances directly and seek status updates on the investigation.

A police officer arrived at the demonstration site, accepted a written representation from the complainants, and assured them that necessary steps were being taken. The victims affirmed that they would persist with their demands until legal action was carried out and their financial losses were recovered.

Police Conduct Raids to Trace Suspects

The Station House Officer of the Town Police Station confirmed that an investigation into the allegations is actively underway. Police teams are currently conducting raids across suspected locations linked to the named operators and employees of the recruitment agency.

Investigators are focusing on identifying the total number of individuals affected, determining the exact financial amounts gathered from each applicant, and establishing the banking channels used to transfer the funds. Authorities noted that further legal proceedings will be pursued based on the evidentiary material collected during the inquiry.
