Patna, State Bureau: In a step towards enhancing mobile user safety and tackling cyber fraud, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar, in collaboration with telecom giant Airtel, is set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered technology that detects and blocks spam calls and malicious links. The initiative, discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by EOU ADG Nayyar Hasnain Khan on Thursday, marks a new chapter in the state’s cybercrime mitigation strategy.
According to Airtel representatives, the telecom company has already begun deploying the AI-based system, which automatically filters and blocks spam activity before it reaches end-users. Alerts generated by the system will also notify consumers, enabling them to take additional precautions at their level.
All Cyber Police Stations in Bihar to Be Equipped with AI Awareness
During the meeting, Airtel officials—including CEO Sujay Chakraborty and Security Head Sandeep Sahay—provided a detailed presentation on how the AI technology functions. They highlighted that the system not only prevents unsolicited and fraudulent calls but also uses behavioral patterns to detect potential threats in real time.
FCRF x CERT-In Roll Out National Cyber Crisis Management Course to Prepare India’s Digital Defenders
The EOU, led by DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon and officers including Sanjay Kumar, resolved to train all cyber police stations across Bihar on the utility and implementation of this new system. The idea is to ensure that law enforcement personnel are not only aware of the technology but can also guide victims and residents on its benefits.
EOU, Airtel to Launch Cyber Fraud Awareness Programs in Rural Areas
Recognizing that rural populations are often more vulnerable to cybercrime due to lack of awareness, EOU officials urged Airtel to conduct educational outreach programs in remote and underserved regions. These programs will include information on AI’s role in cybersecurity, common fraud tactics, and how individuals can protect themselves.
Cyber Cell officers shared insights into the latest trends in online fraud, such as phishing through malicious links disguised as government schemes or digital payment offers. The joint initiative aims to empower users and reduce the success rate of such scams by creating a technologically alert and informed public.
