While the Punjab Kings franchise basks in one of its best seasons on the cricket field, a boardroom battle is brewing off it. Bollywood actress and co-owner Preity Zinta has initiated legal proceedings against fellow directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, questioning the legality of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) conducted on April 21. The petition was filed earlier this week in a Chandigarh court, as reported.
Zinta, a director at KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the holding company of the Punjab Kings IPL team, alleges that the EGM was held in violation of the Companies Act, 2013 and standard corporate governance procedures. According to the petition, Zinta had formally raised objections to the meeting via email on April 10, claiming that required protocols were not followed.
Despite her objections, the EGM reportedly went ahead under the direction of Mohit Burman and with the support of Ness Wadia. Zinta and fellow director Karan Paul were present at the meeting but have contested the legitimacy of the proceedings, especially objecting to the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a new director.

Zinta Seeks to Halt Resolutions, Director Appointment
In her petition, Zinta has requested the court to:
-
Declare the April 21 EGM invalid
-
Restrict Muneesh Khanna from acting as a director
-
Bar the company from implementing any resolutions passed during the meeting
-
Prevent the holding of further board or general meetings without the presence of both Zinta and Karan Paul and without Khanna’s involvement, until the matter is adjudicated
Zinta’s legal team has argued that the decisions taken during the EGM are not only procedurally flawed but also dilute the rights of other shareholders and directors, which violates the principles of fair corporate governance.
Despite the legal rift, Zinta has continued to visibly support Punjab Kings, attending IPL 2025 matches and cheering the team from the stands.
IPL 2025: Punjab Kings Eyes Historic Finish Amid Boardroom Turmoil
While courtroom tensions escalate, the Punjab Kings are thriving on the field. Under the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer, the franchise has secured a playoff berth for the first time since 2014. With 17 points from 12 matches, they are currently placed third on the points table and are in contention for a top-two finish.
Their final two league matches are crucial:
-
May 24 vs Delhi Capitals in Jaipur
-
May 26 vs Mumbai Indians
A strong finish could give Punjab Kings a vital upper hand in the playoffs, even as the legal dispute looms large over the franchise’s boardroom.
