On the afternoon of May 8, a quiet corner near a restaurant in Hyderabad turned into a scene of swift police action as a team from Rayadurgam police station intercepted a high-stakes drug handover. The suspects: a 34-year-old female doctor working at a reputed hospital and a delivery agent. According to officials, the moment the courier handed over a packet of cocaine inside the doctor’s car, law enforcement swooped in, recovering 53 grams of the illegal substance, Rs 10,000 in cash, and two mobile phones from the duo.

Identified as Dr. Namrata, the accused reportedly placed the order via WhatsApp with a known Mumbai-based drug supplier, Vansh Dhakkar, transferring Rs 5 lakh through an online transaction just four days prior to the bust. Police say the delivery was executed by Balakrishna alias Ram Pyar Ram, a 38-year-old courier operating under Dhakkar.

While the immediate drug transaction was startling in itself, investigators were stunned by the revelations that followed. According to Hyderabad police, Dr. Namrata was not a first-time user or casual buyer. She had been allegedly addicted to cocaine for a significant period, with records and statements indicating she spent over ₹70 lakh on narcotics over the years.

Police sources described her double life—maintaining a respected medical profession while secretly engaging with narcotic networks. The doctor reportedly used multiple online platforms and encrypted messaging services to arrange drug purchases, shielding her activities from detection. This case, officials say, reflects a troubling rise in narcotics abuse among professionals, especially in metro cities where digital payments and delivery mechanisms make transactions discreet and convenient.

Nexus Under Scrutiny: Mumbai-Hyderabad Drug Pipeline

The bust has brought renewed focus on interstate drug trafficking rings and the role of technology in facilitating illicit networks. The supplier, Vansh Dhakkar, based in Mumbai, is under investigation for allegedly managing a widespread delivery network. Police have identified Balakrishna as one of several ground-level couriers operating for Dhakkar across Indian cities.

Investigators are now working to trace the money trail, communication records, and past deliveries, which could lead to the unearthing of a larger, more organized cartel. Law enforcement has not ruled out the involvement of other professionals or enablers in the city who might be part of this covert operation.

The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and stated that further investigation is ongoing, with potential arrests and wider implications expected in the coming days.
