Noida : A joint team of the Sector 24 police station and cyber cell has busted a fake call center and arrested four members of a gang involved in cheating people under the guise of insurance policy renewal. The arrested include three men and one woman, with the police recovering 16 mobile phones and three bundles of insurance policy papers from their possession.

Modus Operandi

The gang targeted PNB MetLife Insurance policyholders, luring them with attractive discounts and lucrative packages to renew their policies. If the victims showed reluctance, the fraudsters resorted to threats of recovery actions, coercing individuals into transferring money to fake accounts out of fear.

Targeting Remote States

The accused primarily targeted people from far-off states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. They operated from rented premises, setting up fake call centers to carry out their fraudulent activities.

Inside Knowledge and Expertise

During police interrogation, the accused revealed that they had previously worked with insurance companies and banks, giving them in-depth knowledge of policies and access to sensitive personal data. Posing as “Insurance Ombudsman” officers, they convinced victims to transfer money for policy renewals or fake refund processes.

Police Action

The police have seized:

  • 16 mobile phones used for contacting victims
  • Bundled insurance policy papers used as props to appear credible

The investigation is ongoing, and further links to the fraud network are being explored.
