Cybercriminals have defrauded three individuals of a collective sum of 10.18 lakh rupees in separate digital fraud operations across Patna, employing malicious installation files, fraudulent employment proposals, and deceptive internet links. The cases, which took place in Phulwari Sharif, Sultanganj, and Kankarbagh, involved unauthorized access to victims’ mobile devices and confidential financial data. Following formal complaints submitted by the victims, the Patna cyber police station registered first information reports for each incident and initiated forensic investigations into the phone numbers, digital files, and bank accounts used in the illegal transactions.

Elderly Woman Defrauded of Over Five Lakh Rupees Through Fake Traffic Notice

In the first incident reported from Phulwari Sharif, a 73-year-old woman was targeted by fraudsters posing as familiar acquaintances who transmitted a malicious Android Package (APK) file to her phone under the pretext of an outstanding vehicle traffic challan. Upon installation of the file, the victim’s smartphone was compromised, granting unauthorized operators administrative access to her stored personal and financial credentials. The perpetrators exploited this access to execute 36 unauthorized financial withdrawals totaling 5.18 lakh rupees from her bank account over a span of five days. The victim detected the systematic withdrawals after reviewing her account records and lodged an official complaint with the cyber police, who are analyzing the origin of the malicious file alongside the beneficiary transaction routes.

Deceptive Work-from-Home Proposal Leads to Loss Across Three Accounts

A separate incident unfolded in Mahendru within the Sultanganj police station limits, where an applicant seeking remote employment received promotional messages offering income opportunities through home-based work. The fraudsters inducted the resident into an affiliated Telegram communication channel and supplied an external web link. When the victim followed the shared address, the operators gained entry into his banking credentials, subsequently draining 2.83 lakh rupees spread across three separate bank accounts. Upon discovering the financial depletion across his balances, the resident reported the offense to cyber investigators, who are tracing the administrative profiles running the Telegram group and tracking the destination accounts that received the transferred capital.

Suspicious File Installations Compromise Phone in Kankarbagh

The third fraudulent incident affected a resident living on Chandmari Road in Kankarbagh, who received three unsolicited digital files on his mobile handset on October 19. The download and installation of the files resulted in the device being hacked, enabling the perpetrators to manipulate the victim’s banking application and siphon off 2.17 lakh rupees across the subsequent two days. Cyber authorities have noted that criminals are increasingly utilizing fraudulent government notices, employment offers, and external file packages to infiltrate mobile systems, urging citizens to avoid third-party application packages and verify public notices strictly via official administrative portals while continuing investigations into the recovered digital evidence.
