Police arrested five suspects in Jamshedpur’s Birsanagar area over alleged online gaming fraud and seized 102 ATM cards.
How Was the Cyber-Fraud Network Busted?
A joint police team from Jamshedpur and Ramgarh raided a house in the Birsanagar area of Jharkhand and arrested five people suspected of operating an online fraud network. The operation followed an investigation into cybercrime complaints and suspicious financial activities linked to the accused.
Police identified the arrested individuals as M Bhanu Prakash (31) of Golmuri, Mohammad Farhan (21) of Telco, Rahul Minz and Abhishek Raj of Birsanagar, and Shravan Sona (23) of Sidhgora.
According to SP (Rural) Shubham Khandelwal, the arrests were made in connection with a complaint registered at the Ramgarh cybercrime police station last year. Investigators are examining the group’s alleged activities and the possible involvement of additional individuals.

How Did the Alleged Fraud Operate?
Police suspect that the accused used an online gaming platform to attract people with promises of substantial returns on relatively small initial bets. Investigators believe these assurances were used to persuade individuals to deposit money through the platform.
The investigation is focused on determining how the alleged operation functioned, identifying the financial accounts involved and establishing the extent of suspected fraudulent transactions.
The raid followed leads gathered during an investigation in Ramgarh, where an individual had reportedly been cheated of ₹43 lakh. Investigators subsequently traced information that led them to the property in Birsanagar.
Police are examining whether the arrested suspects were involved in other similar incidents and whether additional people helped manage the alleged operation.
What Did Police Recover During the Raid?
The joint police team recovered five laptops, 25 mobile phones, 102 ATM cards, 67 SIM cards and nine passbooks from the premises. A two-wheeler and other materials were also seized.
Investigators are examining the recovered electronic devices and financial documents to establish how transactions were conducted and whether the seized banking materials were connected to suspected fraudulent activities.
The property was reportedly being used as an operational base. A retired Tata Steel employee owns the house, and police took the owner into custody for questioning regarding activities at the premises.
What Are Police Investigating Now?
Police are continuing to question the detained individuals and examine the suspected network’s financial transactions. Investigators are also working to establish whether additional participants were involved in managing the alleged gaming operation.
Residents had reportedly noticed frequent late-night visits to the house, including people arriving and leaving in luxury vehicles. The activities attracted local suspicion before the police operation.
The arrests highlight the risks associated with online platforms promising unusually high returns on small investments or bets. Police have not yet established the full extent of the alleged network, and further investigation is underway.
