HAPUR : The Cyber Crime Police Station of Hapur Police has uncovered an inter state gang that defrauded unsuspecting individuals using an innovative method at ATMs. The perpetrators applied FEVI-KWIK adhesive to the ATM card slots and inserted fake helpline numbers inside the machine’s booth. Unsuspecting victims, believing their cards were stuck, would call the provided helpline numbers, whereupon the scammers would deceive them into revealing sensitive information. Two members of the gang were arrested during the operation, leading to the recovery of mobile phones, wallets, and other stolen items.

Modus Operandi
The gang would apply FEVI-KWIK glue in the ATM card slot, making it difficult for the card to be removed. The victims, thinking their card was trapped, would see the fake helpline number placed inside the ATM booth and contact it. The scammers, posing as customer service agents, would instruct the victims to provide confidential information under the guise of assisting them. Using this information, the fraudsters would withdraw money from the victim’s account and disappear from the scene, often traveling across multiple cities to avoid detection. The arrested criminals had been executing similar scams across different cities, targeting thousands of people, and had stolen vast amounts over time.
