The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption carried out simultaneous searches at 25 locations across Tamil Nadu on Thursday in connection with an alleged ₹634 crore cash-for-jobs scam linked to former DMK minister K.N. Nehru.
The searches included Nehru’s residence in Thillai Nagar, Trichy, and his brother’s house in R.A. Puram, Chennai. The action came days after the Madras High Court cleared the way for the anti-corruption agency to investigate allegations of irregularities in recruitment to government posts during the previous DMK government’s tenure.
Nehru, who previously held the Municipal Administration and Water Supply portfolio, was present when the search at his Trichy residence began at around 7 am, according to police sources.

Searches Target Premises Linked to Nehru and Associates
A DVAC team headed by a deputy superintendent of police carried out the search at Nehru’s residence in Trichy as part of the statewide operation.
As the searches continued, DMK workers gathered outside the former minister’s residence.
In Chennai, DVAC officials searched the residence of Nehru’s brother in R.A. Puram. Other premises linked to Nehru and his associates were also searched as investigators examined documents and materials that could help establish suspected financial transactions and identify those involved.
The case centres on allegations that money was collected from candidates in exchange for government jobs in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department during Nehru’s tenure as minister.
₹634 Crore Cash-for-Jobs Allegations Under Probe
The investigation concerns alleged irregularities in recruitment to government posts and claims that candidates were asked to pay money in return for appointments.
The latest searches follow the Madras High Court’s decision allowing the anti-corruption agency to proceed with its investigation into the allegations.
DVAC officials are examining records and other material recovered during the searches to trace suspected transactions and determine whether individuals or entities linked to the former minister were involved.
The allegations form part of a wider scrutiny of decisions taken in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department during the previous government.
Second Round of DVAC Searches Since September
Thursday’s action marks the second round of DVAC searches at premises linked to Nehru since September.
In an earlier operation, the agency searched his residence and other locations in Chennai in connection with a separate investigation into alleged irregularities in contracts awarded by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department between 2021 and 2025.
The latest searches, however, are focused on the alleged ₹634 crore cash-for-jobs case and the suspected collection of money from candidates seeking government employment.
The investigation remains ongoing as DVAC examines the material seized during the searches and continues to trace the alleged financial trail connected to the recruitment process.
