VARANASI: A resident of the Ashapur area has approached the cyber crime police alleging that he was defrauded of Rs 23 lakh on the pretext of settling and closing a loan taken from Bajaj Finance. The complainant, Arvind Harinath Yadav, submitted an application to the Cyber Crime Branch accusing Aman Sharma, who allegedly runs a direct selling agency for Bajaj Finance, along with other associates, of orchestrating the fraud. Police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint and an investigation has been initiated into the matter.

Assurance Given to Settle Loan Without Extra Charges

According to the details provided in the police complaint, Yadav had secured a loan amounting to Rs 33 lakh from Bajaj Finance. Over the course of the repayment period, he had already deposited Rs 7.50 lakh directly through the official mobile application of the lending company. While the loan remained active, Aman Sharma reportedly contacted him over the phone and offered a settlement.

Sharma claimed that he could facilitate the complete closure of the pending loan account without the borrower having to pay any additional interest or premature foreclosure charges. The victim stated that because Sharma had previously assisted him with loan-related paperwork, he saw no reason to doubt the offer and agreed to the proposed arrangement.

Funds Transferred into Private Axis Bank Account

Acting on instructions provided to him, Yadav was told that the settlement amount had to be deposited into an Axis Bank account registered in the name of Vinay Kashyap rather than through the regular repayment platform. Following these directions, the complainant carried out multiple online money transfers between July 20 and August 3, 2026. During this two-week window, he deposited a sum of Rs 23 lakh into the designated third-party account.

Problems arose shortly after the total amount was credited. Yadav followed up with the operator to obtain an updated loan account statement along with an official No Objection Certificate to confirm the full closure of his account. The accused, however, began evading questions and repeatedly delayed issuing the requested documentation.

Cyber Police Launch Probe Following Formal Complaint

Realizing that the loan account had not been closed and that the assurances were false, Yadav reported the incident to the Cyber Crime Branch. In his complaint, he sought immediate registration of an FIR and detailed legal action against Sharma and others involved in managing the transfer of funds.

Cyber crime police station in-charge Udayveer Singh confirmed the registration of the case. Officials stated that investigators are currently examining the financial transaction records, the bank account details of the recipient, and the specific circumstances surrounding the unauthorized settlement offer. Further inquiries are under way to determine the operational links of the agency and to trace the transferred amount.
