FCRF Launches ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh’ Initiative to Combat Rising Cyber Crime
Building on the foundation laid by MeitY’s ‘Cyber Surakshit Bharat,’ the FCRF’s ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh’ initiative aims to extend cybersecurity awareness, capacity building, and community engagement across all 75 districts and commissionerates, involving schools, corporate entities, NGOs, and more.
Lucknow – The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) has announced the launch of its ambitious initiative, ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh,’ which aims to safeguard the state’s digital infrastructure and protect its citizens from the growing menace of cybercrime. Modeled after the successful ‘Cyber Surakshit Bharat’ initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), this initiative aims to extend cybersecurity awareness, build capacity, and foster a culture of cyber hygiene across the state.
Key Components of Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh:
1. Public Awareness: FCRF will spearhead awareness campaigns targeting the general public, government employees, corporate entities, and NGOs. These efforts will focus on educating these groups about the evolving tactics used by cybercriminals and the best practices to safeguard against them. The campaigns will be disseminated through digital media, print media, and social media platforms.
2. Capacity Building: The initiative will conduct an array of training programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences designed to build capacity among Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), government employees, and police personnel. These events are critical in equipping participants with the necessary skills to counter cyber threats effectively. FCRF has a strong track record, having conducted more than 100 capacity-building and awareness courses for the police, banks, corporate sector, and the public.
3. Cyber Hygiene Campaigns in Schools: Recognizing the importance of cyber awareness from an early age, FCRF will implement cyber hygiene campaigns across schools in Uttar Pradesh. These campaigns will be rolled out in phases, taking into account the state’s extensive administrative divisions, which include 18 divisions, 75 districts, 13 municipal corporations, 226 municipal boards, 822 blocks, 8135 nyay panchayats, 915 urban bodies, 59,613 gram sabhas, 97,941 villages, and over 180,000 post offices.
4. Collaborative Efforts: In collaboration with the government, police, corporate entities, NGOs, and other departments, FCRF will organize a variety of activities, including walkathons, slogan contests, and nukkad nataks (street plays), across all 75 districts and commissionerates of Uttar Pradesh. These activities are intended to engage the broader community in the fight against cybercrime.
5. Hackathons and Cyber Drills: To encourage innovation and preparedness, the initiative will host hackathons and cyber drills, inviting participants to develop solutions to current cybersecurity challenges and test their readiness against simulated cyber-attacks.
6. Proactive Advisory and Alerts: Regular advisories and alerts will be issued through various media channels, ensuring that the public stays informed about emerging cyber threats and how to protect themselves.
7. Engagement with Academia, NGOs, and Industry: FCRF is actively inviting partnerships from academic institutions, corporate entities, NGOs, and government departments to enhance the scope and impact of the ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh’ initiative. These collaborations are crucial for creating a resilient cybersecurity ecosystem across the state.
