Rekha Sharma, a Dwarka resident, was defrauded of over Rs 10 lakh by two men posing as women offering a job on a fake movie-ticketing website. The scammers, Mohit Sharma and Smarth Dabar from Rohini, tricked her into depositing money for compensation, ultimately stealing Rs 10,30,849 before ceasing contact.
2. Not Sharing OTP Still Leaves Cybersecurity Vulnerable
Kolkata’s cyber cells are launching ‘cyber snippet series’ to raise awareness about modern cybercrimes, emphasizing that not sharing OTPs alone isn’t enough for safety. These sessions will highlight how even minor online activities, like uploading a photo, can lead to extortion. The initiative addresses the need for comprehensive digital security awareness.

A cyber-attack on BSNL exposed 140 GB of sensitive telecom data, including IMSI and SIM details, risking millions of subscribers. The breach, executed by ‘kiberphant0m’, revealed vulnerabilities in BSNL’s systems and threatens national security by enabling SIM cloning, illegal surveillance, and potential attacks on other critical infrastructure.
4. Jamtara Police Urge ED to Investigate 22 Infamous Cybercriminals’ Assets
Jamtara police have requested the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the properties of 22 cybercriminals who have quickly amassed significant wealth.
