1. UP Board Alerts Students About Cybercriminals Exploiting Scrutiny Process
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) warned Class 10 and 12 students and parents about cybercriminals promising higher marks for money. Board secretary Dibyakant Shukla urged them to report such calls to the District School Inspector to prevent fraud and register complaints.

2. High Court Directs the Center to Tackle Issue of Multiple SIMs Per Person in Cyber Fraud Case
The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Union government to enhance SIM card regulation following a cyber fraud case. Sumit Nandwani, accused of using 35 fraudulent SIM cards for an online scam, was denied bail. Telecom providers must cooperate in the investigation, and stricter SIM card validation measures are recommended.

3. RBI to Establish Digital Payments Intelligence Platform Following Over 700% Increase in Cyber Frauds
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plans to establish a digital payments intelligence platform to combat rising payment frauds, which surged nearly 300% in FY24. Chaired by Abhaya Hota, the committee includes key banking and fintech representatives. Despite increased fraud cases, the total value of frauds has significantly decreased.

4. During Election Season, Fraudsters Exploit ‘PM and CM Schemes’
Kolkata Police warned citizens about cyber fraudsters exploiting election season with fake mobile recharge offers supposedly from PM Modi and CM Banerjee. These scams aim to steal users’ bank details and personal information. Authorities advised against clicking suspicious links and initiated legal action against the perpetrators.

5. AIIMS Cyber Attack Puts Digital Health ID Plan Under Review
A ransomware attack on AIIMS, Delhi, has raised concerns about the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). CERT-In is assessing the situation, and AIIMS has enhanced security measures. Despite the attack affecting five servers, no ransom was demanded, and data was restored from an unaffected backup server.

6. Advanced Surveillance Capabilities Discovered in LightSpy Spyware’s macOS Variant
Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a previously undocumented macOS variant of the LightSpy spyware, initially believed to target iOS. Analyzing artifacts, they found it exploits Safari WebKit flaws to infect devices. Active since January 2024, it employs plugins for extensive data collection and network device monitoring, affecting about 20 test devices.

7. SPECTR Malware Targets Ukrainian Defense Forces in SickSync Campaign
CERT-UA has warned of cyber attacks on Ukrainian defense forces using SPECTR malware in the SickSync espionage campaign, linked to the Luhansk People’s Republic’s security agencies. The attacks involve spear-phishing emails with malicious SyncThing applications, stealing data and credentials. The Vermin group, active since 2019, is responsible.

8. Meta and IRS Among the Most Impersonated Organizations
Cybercriminals impersonated Meta 10,457 times over four years, making it the top American brand for phishing scams, followed by the IRS and Apple. Japanese brands, particularly those by KDDI and JR East, were the most targeted globally. Over 27% of these scams involved IT and technology brands.

9. Panasonic Australia Confirms Cyber Incident Following Akira Ransomware Claim
Panasonic Australia faced a security incident with Akira ransomware gang claiming access to its network. While Panasonic asserts no business or personal data compromise, they’re investigating the claim. Akira threatens to leak company files but hasn’t provided evidence or ransom details. 10. Dubai Government Reportedly Hit by Ransomware Attack
The cybercriminal group Daixin Team claims to have targeted Dubai’s government network, potentially compromising sensitive data of its wealthy residents. The stolen cache includes personal information like IDs and passports. Daixin, known for healthcare sector attacks, exploits VPN vulnerabilities and threatens to leak data if ransom demands are not met.
