Delhi Schools To Observe Monthly ‘Cyber Jagrookta Divas’ To Raise Cyber Awareness Among Students

NEW DELHI: Students at Delhi’s schools in grades VI and higher will now have seminars and exercises on the prevention of cybercrime once a month as part of a government programme aimed at turning them into “cyber warriors.”

This school activity is part of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), a plan run by the Union Home Ministry, which designates the first Wednesday of each month as ‘Cyber Jagrookta Divas.’

Workshops, seminars, quizzes, and creative sessions are among the monthly events planned by the education department from November to February.

Schedule of activities made

The education department has already planned a schedule of activities for students from November to February, including workshops, seminars, quizzes, and creative sessions. There are different themes for different students – Introduction to cybercrime, types of cybercrime, identifying false news and fake applications on social media and the internet, internet ethics, ATM scams, online shopping dangers, mobile app security, mobile connection security assaults, and preventative measures will be taught to students in grades VI to X.

The themes for students in classes XI and XII, on the other hand, are cybercrime and safety, cyber hygiene in everyday life, and an introduction to social networks, electronic payments, and safeguards.

Increase In Number Of Internet Users On An Exponential Scale

According to a letter from Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla to all state chief secretaries, “there is a pressing need to increase ‘cyber hygiene’ for prevention of cybercrime” due to “the exponential increase in the number of internet users (sic) on social media platforms in India, and the rapidly evolving technologies, which have also brought unique challenges.”

Several schools are already overburdened, and administrators are concerned about how well the government initiative will be implemented.

When a new scheme is implemented, a new circular is sent to the schools, according to the head of a government school.

“Right now, in addition to regular classes, we are implementing entrepreneurship mindset classes, happiness classes, Desh bhakti classes, Mission Buniyaad sessions, and year-long Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programmes; even as our teachers are scattered in vaccination and BLO duty,” Bhalla said. As of yet, no special resources have been provided to the schools.
