The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 27 October, cleared key proposals to establish a comprehensive cybersecurity shield across the state. Under this initiative, the state government has approved the setup of the Uttar Pradesh Cyber Security Operations Centre, aimed at fortifying digital systems against emerging online threats. The initiative marks a focused step toward securing the state’s expanding digital administration and public service platforms.
C3iHub IIT Kanpur Named Implementing Agency
To bring the security centre to fruition, C3iHub at IIT Kanpur has been designated as the implementing agency responsible for setting up the facility. The overall project carries an estimated outlay of ₹104.28 crore, covering both the initial establishment and ongoing operations and maintenance for a three-year period. Through this technical partnership, the state intends to leverage institutional cybersecurity expertise to build and manage its digital defences.
Strengthening Digital Infrastructure and Data Centres
The new cyber operations centre will directly enhance the security framework of the state’s key digital assets, including the core IT infrastructure, the State Data Centre, the Uttar Pradesh State Wide Area Network, and numerous official government applications. With an increasing volume of administrative processes and public services running on digital networks, the initiative addresses potential vulnerabilities across state platforms. The integrated centre will safeguard official records, network pipelines, and citizen-facing portals against unauthorized access and system breaches.
Continuous Monitoring and Incident Response
A core feature of the centre will be round-the-clock cybersecurity surveillance, providing twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week monitoring across state digital networks. Alongside real-time oversight, the facility will maintain a dedicated incident response capability to quickly identify, contain, and resolve potential cyber threats. By instituting an active watch over critical infrastructure, the administration aims to ensure uninterrupted public services and preserve the integrity of state digital operations.
