Deloitte UK CEO Richard Houston received a £7.1 million (about ₹90.38 crore) pay package, about 93 times the pay of the median UK employee, as the Big Four firm cut around 1,000 jobs in the country.

Houston’s pay rose 45% during the year, making him the highest-paid executive among the Big Four accounting firms in the UK, according to the additional report.

The increase came as Deloitte continued an internal restructuring programme known as “Project Maple”, alongside reductions in its UK workforce.

Houston’s Pay Rises 45% to £7.1 Million

Houston’s £7.1 million compensation package represented a 45% increase from the previous year.

Most of his earnings reportedly came from profit sharing and the achievement of strategic targets across Europe.

The package was described as approximately 93 times the amount earned by the median Deloitte employee in the UK.

The size of the payout has drawn attention because it coincided with significant workforce reductions at the firm.

Deloitte Cuts Around 1,000 UK Jobs

Deloitte cut around 1,000 jobs in the UK while carrying out an internal overhaul under Project Maple.

The restructuring involves changes to the firm’s partnership model, including a move away from salaried partner arrangements towards a structure in which partners hold a more direct share in ownership and profits.

The earlier report also said profit allocations for new partners had been reduced as part of the restructuring.

The combination of job cuts and a sharp increase in executive pay has intensified discussion over compensation and workforce costs at the firm.

Corporate Restructuring Extends Beyond Deloitte

Deloitte’s changes come amid wider restructuring across major companies.

Meta has reportedly cut around 8,000 jobs despite recording a 26% increase in revenue, while directing up to $145 billion (about ₹13.80 lakh crore) towards capital expenditure linked to artificial intelligence and automated systems.

Volvo Cars has also announced plans to cut around 2,500 jobs amid pressures in the electric vehicle market and rising tariffs.

Across industries, companies are reducing costs in some parts of their operations while continuing to invest heavily in technology, automation and long-term strategic projects.
