Anthropic, the artificial intelligence firm behind the Claude model, has filed for an initial public offering in the United States, taking a major step toward becoming the first developer of frontier AI models to list on the stock market. The company expects its shares to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT, following a regulatory filing submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, October 26. Anthropic had previously filed confidential paperwork for a public listing in June. The company has not yet disclosed the fundraising target for the offering, though the move comes as escalating capital requirements for building and operating advanced AI systems continue to strain balance sheets across the sector.

Growing Capital Needs and Financial Disclosures

The planned listing arrives as technology companies face expanding funding requirements to keep pace with the race for cutting-edge AI development. Although revenues across the sector are rising, significant operational spending continues to weigh heavily on overall financial health. Financial disclosures in Anthropic’s regulatory filing reveal that the company posted a net loss of $80.75 billion on revenue of $16.29 billion during the first half of 2026. The filing did not include third-quarter financial figures, which may be incorporated in an amended submission before the initial public offering is officially priced. The disclosure of these figures is expected to draw substantial scrutiny from prospective public-market investors assessing the path toward long-term sustainability.

Major Investment Banks Back Public Offering

Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are serving as the lead underwriters for the proposed offering, accompanied by 20 additional banks named in the SEC filing. The collective involvement of Wall Street institutions underscores the anticipated scale of the debut, which could place Anthropic among the largest initial public offerings on record. The final fundraising total and proposed share pricing remain undisclosed, leaving market participants awaiting further amended filings to determine the official valuation and market capitalization at debut.

SpaceX Benchmark and Market Positioning Alongside OpenAI

Market attention surrounding mega-offerings has recently been shaped by SpaceX, which set a historical record by raising nearly $86 billion, including the underwriters’ greenshoe option, at an initial valuation of $1.77 trillion. SpaceX shares opened trading at $150 against an IPO price of $135, briefly falling below the offer price before settling at $147.95 on Friday, October 23. Anthropic’s formal move to go public also puts it ahead of rival OpenAI in the public markets. While OpenAI submitted confidential listing paperwork weeks before Anthropic in June, it has stated that it does not expect to list publicly until 2027. OpenAI is separately reported to be pursuing an additional $30 billion in private funding at a valuation of $1.25 trillion.
