Bengaluru Police have arrested a 25-year-old Bihar worker over an AI-generated video depicting a blast at Vidhana Soudha.

What Did the Viral Video Show?

The video, uploaded on Instagram, depicted an explosion at Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the Karnataka legislature. Police identified the person who allegedly uploaded it as Hazarat Ali, a migrant worker from Bihar who had moved to Bengaluru a few months earlier.

Ali, who works as a daily-wage pipe fitter, was arrested on Wednesday, October 21. Investigators are questioning him to determine why the video was created and circulated.

How Was the Video Created?

The incident came to police attention on Tuesday morning when an Instagram account named “inx_king_h_g” uploaded the video.

The footage showed Ali making a gesture resembling a gun and pretending to shoot towards Vidhana Soudha. It was followed by an edited sequence depicting an explosion at the building. The video carried the caption, “Vidhanasabha Uda Diya Bam se”, suggesting that the building had been blown up using a bomb.

Police said artificial intelligence had been used to create the explosion sequence, making it appear as though a blast had occurred at the legislature building.

What Action Have Police Taken?

Bengaluru Police registered a case on Tuesday after detecting the video during digital surveillance. Ali was subsequently identified and arrested in connection with its alleged creation and circulation. A police officer confirmed that investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the video and questioning the accused about his involvement.

Authorities are also investigating whether other individuals participated in creating, uploading or circulating the edited footage.

Was the Video Intended to Cause Panic?

Police have not established the motive behind the video. Investigators are examining whether it was intended to create panic among the public or was produced for another purpose. The footage depicted a fabricated explosion rather than an actual attack on Vidhana Soudha. However, police are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances of its publication and circulation.
