8-Year-Old Boy Honored as Cyber Safety Ambassador in Eluru’s Innovative Program

The Eluru District Police, in association with Gram Deep Trust, launched the Student Ambassador Public Safety Training Workshop (SANIC) on December 13, 2024. The workshop, held at the Godavari Conference Hall in the Eluru Collector Office premises, was inaugurated by Eluru District Superintendent of Police (SP), Sri K. Pratap Siva Kishore IPS, in the presence of District Joint Collector Mrs. Dhatri Reddy.
The SANIC initiative is designed to empower students as ambassadors of public safety, particularly in raising awareness about cybercrime, traffic rules, and crimes against women. Organized by the Eluru District Police and the voluntary organization Gram Deep Trust, the event is aimed at fostering a culture of safety and responsibility among young minds.
Master Kollu Geethesh Honored for Exceptional Performance
One of the highlights of the program was the recognition of Master Kollu Geethesh, an eight-year-old boy who displayed extraordinary talent in the awareness campaign. His efforts were widely lauded, and he was presented with a Best Performance Certificate by SP Sri Pratap Siva Kishore IPS and Joint Collector Mrs. Dhatri Reddy. Geethesh’s creativity and dedication in spreading awareness through videos on social media earned him this accolade.
Program Highlights and Vision
Empowering Students as Cyber Safety Ambassadors
The workshop focused on transforming students into ambassadors for public safety, particularly targeting issues like cybercrime, traffic violations, and sexual harassment. Students were encouraged to create and share awareness videos on social media, highlighting these issues to educate the public.
SP Sri K. Pratap Siva Kishore IPS emphasized the critical role of these student ambassadors in building a safer society. He highlighted that students in all colleges would be selected as first-line ambassadors, particularly female students, who would act as “Cyber Soldiers” to combat cybercrime. These ambassadors are expected to spread awareness to at least ten people in their communities, amplifying the impact of this initiative.
Cybercrime Reporting and Helpline Awareness
The SP urged students to educate others about cybercrimes and encourage victims to report incidents immediately. Citizens can use the 1930 cybercrime helpline or the dedicated district number 95550351100 for reporting malicious activities. He compared the program’s potential growth to the ripple effect of a small spark growing into a powerful movement.
Traffic and Safety Initiatives
Joint Collector Mrs. Dhatri Reddy announced plans to establish a Traffic Park in Eluru, which will serve as a hub for raising awareness about traffic rules and safety measures. The SP emphasized the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, urging students to promote these safety practices within their families and on social media.
Additionally, the Abhaya Team, a newly formed initiative in Eluru, was introduced. This team focuses on providing protection and spreading awareness in schools, colleges, railway stations, bus stands, and other public places to ensure the safety of women and girls.
Broader Goals for Public Safety
The program also highlighted the importance of CCTV installation in schools, homes, and public spaces to deter thefts and prevent untoward incidents. SP Sri K. Pratap Siva Kishore IPS encouraged students to adopt leadership qualities, aspire for social change, and contribute to public safety initiatives.
The SP gave an inspiring analogy, comparing the potential impact of these student ambassadors to the power of a nuclear bomb—a small beginning with the capacity to create significant change. He envisions the number of student ambassadors growing from a handful today to 15,000 in the near future, forming a strong network for public safety.
