As India transitions into a new era of data governance and digital accountability, the Future Crime Research Foundation , in strategic collaboration with Algoritha, is proud to host an exclusive, knowledge-intensive webinar titled:
“Navigating the DPDP Act 2023: Rights, Duties, and Cybersecurity Implications”
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 marks a paradigm shift in India’s legal and technological framework for data protection. This seminal legislation introduces a forward-looking model of digital rights, compliance obligations, and institutional accountability, reshaping the operational landscape for both public and private sector entities.
This meticulously curated session aims to deconstruct the Act’s legal intricacies and operational mandates into digestible, actionable insights. It is specifically tailored for professionals working in cybersecurity, law, compliance, governance, policy, law enforcement, and academia.
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of seven pivotal dimensions of the DPDP framework:
1. Consent Manager: Role & Responsibilities
A cornerstone of the Act, the Consent Manager is a neutral facilitator between the Data Principal and the Data Fiduciary. The session will elucidate this role’s significance, associated legal mandates, and the technical protocols required to ensure ethical and transparent data consent workflows.
2. Data Principal’s Rights
Empowering individuals lies at the core of the DPDP Act. This segment will explore the comprehensive rights afforded to data principals—including the right to access, rectify, erase, and seek redressal—thereby reinforcing autonomy and control in the digital domain.
3. Consent as a Legal Prerequisite for Data Processing
The Act elevates consent from a formality to a fundamental prerequisite. The webinar will outline frameworks for capturing freely given, informed, specific, and unambiguous consent, and the organizational realignments required for lawful data processing.
4. An Overview of the Draft DPDP Rules, 2025
Anticipated to shape procedural compliance, the forthcoming draft rules will further clarify implementation pathways. Attendees will gain a first-look understanding of expected norms related to breach notifications, format standards, and enforcement mechanisms.
5. Defining Personal Data Breaches
The session will provide clarity on what constitutes a personal data breach under the Act, the statutory timelines for reporting, and the potential legal liabilities that may arise from such incidents.
6. Scope & Applicability of the DPDP Act
This segment will address the Act’s jurisdictional reach—highlighting its applicability to domestic and foreign entities processing the personal data of Indian citizens—and implications for global service providers.
7. Duties of Data Fiduciaries & Data Processors
Distinguishing between Fiduciaries and Processors, the webinar will articulate their respective responsibilities, emphasizing principles of purpose limitation, data minimization, and security safeguards essential for regulatory adherence.
This initiative is a part of FCRF’s larger commitment to cultivating digital literacy, responsible data governance, and cybersecurity awareness. With Algoritha’s domain expertise, this session promises to translate complex legal constructs into practical strategies through case studies, real-world illustrations, and expert interpretations.
