Scammer Used Social Media to Pose as Female Doctor, Govt Official

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a cyber fraudster from Delhi accused of posing as a female doctor and government official on social media platforms. The accused allegedly duped several victims across states of over ₹50 lakh through online impersonation and emotional manipulation.

Investigators revealed that the fraudster created fake profiles on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, where he posed as a doctor or a customs/finance ministry official. After gaining the trust of his targets, the accused would fabricate stories—such as sending gifts or parcels from abroad that required customs clearance fees. Victims, misled by these fake claims, transferred large sums of money to his bank accounts.

Fake Aadhaar and Digital Footprint Helped STF Crack the Case

According to the STF, the accused used forged Aadhaar cards and fake identities to avoid detection. A detailed cyber forensic investigation tracked multiple IP addresses and financial trails, ultimately leading officers to a hideout in Delhi.

Upon arrest, multiple digital devices, fake documents, and bank account details used in the scam were recovered. Authorities stated that the accused operated alone but used a web of fake credentials to seem credible. The case has now been transferred to the Cyber Crime Division for further probe, and efforts are underway to identify and support all affected victims.

The STF has once again warned citizens against engaging with unknown profiles online, especially those offering financial promises or claiming to be officials from key government departments.
