UP Police In Action Mode To Crack Cyber Crime Cases
With a focus on cyber crime especially involving crime related to child and women, the Uttar Pradesh government held a high-level meeting and have instructed to increase the efficiency of cyber police stations.
In the meeting chaired by Awanish Kumar Awasthi, UP’s additional chief secretary instructed officials to resolves pending cases related to cyber crime. He has asked cyber cops to inspect the progress of each cyber police stations and prepare an action taken report. The meeting was attended by Ram Kumar, UP’s additional director general of police (cybercrime).
In a meeting held in Lucknow on Tuesday, Awasthi instructed senior officials to inspect cyber police stations which have long-pending cases. He asked the officials to carry on inspection and examine the work progress of the police station and fix the issues that are causing the roadblock in the investigation.
During the meeting, senior officials said that newly constituted cyber crime police stations across the 18 zones have so far registered 331 cases out of which 83 have been disposed of. Cyber police have so far arrested 277 accused in these cases, which were also arrested from other states.
Awasthi also asked police to circulate the number of cyber police stations on social media and other platforms so that the public can easily raise their grievances and register their cases.
To deal with cases like cyberstalking and cyberbullying, the Uttar Pradesh government has recently decided to create a “woman cyber cell” at each cyber police station in the state.
There are 18 cyber police stations in various cities, including Noida, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Gorakhpur. The cyber police stations in Lucknow and Noida started in 2018, while others were inaugurated in August last year. These cyber police stations directly report to Lucknow, and do not come under the respective district police.
