1. Cyber fraudsters embezzle Rs 56 crore in eight months, with over 80% of cases involving investment scams: Noida Police
In Gautam Buddha Nagar, cybercriminals duped residents of Rs 56.16 crore in eight months, with over 80% of cases involving investment fraud. Cyber fraudsters target educated individuals through Telegram and WhatsApp groups. The police have arrested 19 suspects and frozen Rs 6.47 crore of the stolen amount.

2. 12 more Indians detained in suspected cybercrime operation in Sri Lanka
In central Sri Lanka, 12 Indian nationals were arrested for suspected cybercrimes, adding to over 70 similar arrests in the past week. Authorities seized numerous electronic devices and discovered links to international betting and financial scams. In total, 205 foreigners, mostly Indians, were detained for online fraud and illegal activities.

3. Courier scam: Police discover connections to Chinese cybercriminals
Bhubaneswar police arrested five men linked to a fake courier scam, revealing connections to Chinese cybercriminals. The gang impersonated Mumbai police, extorting Rs 36 lakh from an airport officer. Evidence shows involvement in defrauding people in 24 states of nearly Rs 25 crore. Authorities are pursuing the Chinese suspects.

4. Group of 10 arrested for ‘digitally holding’ woman hostage and extorting Rs 1.4 crore
Surat police busted an inter-state cybercriminal gang that impersonated law enforcement officials and extorted Rs 1.4 crore from a 39-year-old woman. The operation spanned Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana, resulting in 10 arrests. The gang coerced the woman into transferring funds by threatening legal action.

5. J-K: ADGP launches upgraded Technical Support Unit in Jammu to combat cybercrime and cyberterrorism.
In Jammu, ADGP Anand Jain inaugurated the upgraded Technical Support Unit at Police Component, Gandhi Nagar, aimed at enhancing the police’s ability to counter cybercrimes and cyber terrorism. Equipped with advanced technology and staffed by trained personnel, the unit will support district cyber teams and improve cybercrime resolution in remote areas.

6. Indonesia restores national data center following a cyberattack
Despite a cyber attack on Indonesia’s temporary national data center, the Ministry of Investment assures that business identification number issuance via the Online Single Submission system remains unaffected. The ransomware attack impacted 30 ministries, 15 provinces, 148 districts, and 48 cities, while 43 agencies were protected by data backups.

7. Affirm card users’ personal data potentially compromised in Evolve Bank cyber breach
Affirm Holdings announced that Affirm card users’ personal information may have been compromised in a cybersecurity incident at Arkansas-based Evolve Bank and Trust. Affirm is conducting an independent investigation alongside Evolve’s efforts, which are ongoing as of July 1, with law enforcement agencies involved in the response.

8. HubSpot suffers cyber attack, with about 50 customer accounts compromised
HubSpot reported that threat actors breached at least 50 customer accounts in a June 22 security incident. The company is actively investigating and blocking further attempts. As of June 28, no new unauthorized access occurred, and affected customers have been contacted. Previous similar breaches occurred in 2022.

9. FBI alerts on rising cyber threats to growing US renewable energy sector
The FBI warned that cyber actors are targeting the U.S. renewable energy sector, aiming to disrupt operations and steal information. As renewable energy expands, threats focus on operational technology systems, particularly inverters. The FBI urges monitoring network activity, updating security, reporting intrusions, and securing supply chains to mitigate risks.

10. University press targeted by cyber attack
Cambridge University Press & Assessment (CUPA) faced a cyber attack causing technical disruptions, including email access loss, attributed to INC Ransomware. The group demanded ransom after stealing and threatening to disclose sensitive data. CUPA is investigating with external experts, with most customer platforms unaffected, including ongoing exams.
