The Enforcement Directorate arrested Lakshay Vij from Delhi for alleged cyber fraud involving a US woman under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. He is to be presented in a special court for custodial interrogation
2. Trio arrested for defrauding elderly man of Rs 5 crore
Hyderabad: Telangana Cyber Security Bureau arrested three men for duping an elderly Secunderabad resident of Rs 5.40 crore through a cyber fraud. Posing as officials, they falsely claimed his involvement in money laundering. The accused, working for a handler in Dubai, were apprehended from Bahadurpura.
3. Vijayawada: Woman loses Rs 1.30 lakh in online scam and commits suicide
Vijayawada: P. Sravanthi, 28, committed suicide after losing Rs 1.30 lakh in a cyber fraud. Scammers, via Telegram, promised high returns on investments. After borrowing and transferring the money, she realized she was duped. police filed a case under Section 420 of IPC and Section 66(D) of the IT Act.
4. Telangana Cyber Security Bureau dismantles international fraud ring
Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) arrested three men for aiding an international cyber fraud network and scamming an elderly victim of Rs 5.40 crore. The suspects, linked to Dubai, used 17 bank accounts to transfer and convert illicit funds into USDT. The investigation continues to identify other culprits.
5. Budget increase for IT Ministry: Rs 21,936.90 crore to enhance AI Mission, PLI, Chip, and Cyber Infrastructure
The Center’s 2024–25 budget allocated Rs 21,936.90 crore for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, up from Rs 16,549.04 crore. 7. Chinese hackers use MgBot malware to target Taiwan and US NGO
Beijing-affiliated hacking group Daggerfly targeted organizations in Taiwan and a U.S. NGO in China using upgraded malware, including MgBot and MACMA. Symantec’s report highlights Daggerfly’s swift toolset updates for espionage. The group exploits vulnerabilities and targets major operating systems, including macOS and Android, for intelligence gathering and cyber attacks.

8. Symantec reveals Daggerfly’s updated tools in global espionage operations
Symantec reported that the espionage group Daggerfly updated its malware toolset, including new versions of MgBot and Macma for various platforms like Windows, macOS, and Android. These tools were used in recent attacks on Taiwanese organizations and a U.S. NGO in China, indicating Daggerfly’s internal espionage activities and adaptive capabilities.

IntelBroker, a dark web hacker, claimed responsibility for a data breach at LuLu Hypermarket, compromising personal information of about 196,000 individuals. 10. New ICS Malware ‘FrostyGoop’ Aims at Vital Infrastructure
Researchers discovered FrostyGoop, a new ICS malware that targets industrial systems using Modbus TCP communications. This malware, identified by Dragos, was used in a cyber attack on a Ukrainian energy company, disrupting heating services for 48 hours. It is the ninth ICS malware discovered and highlights significant risks to critical infrastructure.
