Top PSU Officer Caught Red-Handed Accepting Rs 10 Lakh Bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Group General Manager (GGM) of M/s Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Ltd., a PSU under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, alongside the Director of a private company and another individual. The arrests were made following allegations of bribery amounting to Rs 10 lakh.
A case was registered by the CBI on December 7, 2024, naming four individuals, including the GGM, the Director of a Bhubaneswar-based private firm, another private individual, and an unidentified person. It was alleged that the GGM engaged in corrupt practices involving the awarding of work orders and clearance of bills. The accused reportedly solicited a bribe of Rs 10 lakh in exchange for promising undue benefits, including adjustments in future billings.
According to the CBI, the GGM met with the Director of the private company on December 6, 2024, in Bhubaneswar, where the cash was handed over. Acting on a tip-off, the CBI laid a trap the following day, catching the accused GGM in the act of accepting the bribe. Additionally, another private individual was apprehended for his role as a co-conspirator in facilitating the transaction. The bribe money was recovered during the operation.
Simultaneous searches were conducted across eight locations in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Kolkata (West Bengal). The searches led to the seizure of incriminating documents, a vehicle used in the crime, and digital evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities delve deeper into the case to uncover additional details and potential links to other corrupt activities.
