To Curb Online Financial Frauds, Assam Launches 24*7 Helpline Number And Cyber Forensic Lab
The Assam Police Department introduced a citizen financial cyber fraud reporting and management system with an around-the-clock helpline to help combat financial cybercrime along with a cyber forensic lab and testing centre.
The cyber lab has been set up in CID headquarters, as an element of the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) scheme. This will be a helping hand for the Assam police to bring down the cases of cyber fraud in the state.
Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, DGP Assam, launched the cyber forensic lab cum testing center and the citizen financial cyber reporting and management system. The 24*7 operating helpline number is 155260. With this, DGP Mahanta also distributed the cybercrime first responders’ kit to police stations of Guwahati city.
Furthermore, the DGP tweeted “In Assam, a large number of people fall victim to cyber fraud, people lose their entire savings, by the time they report it to police. To tackle this issue, a 24X7 help desk has been set up with helpline number 155260 in CID. This is the need of the hour”.
Cyber Forensic Lab and Testing Centres
- This is a part of the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) scheme and it has been set up for Rs 3.92 crore. The lab consists of various machines like malware analysers, disk forensics, GPS forensics, etc. This lab will keep a record of the collection and prevention of digital evidence related to cyber frauds.
Cybercrime First Responder Kit - Assam government has got 245 responder kits for 245 police stations at Rs 33 crore. These advance kits will be used by investigating team to identify, collect and preserve digital evidence.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Cybercrime first responder kits’ were also distributed among police officers by @DGPAssamPolice. 245 such portable kits procured at Rs 33.16 cr under MOITRI will be used by Investigating Officers at the crime scenes.”
Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting And Management System - If any victims have to file a financial cyber complaint or need any assistance regarding any fraud, can call the helpline number.
To this aid, DGP Mahanta further tweeted, “These above mentioned three initiatives would go a long way in improving the capabilities of Assam Police in handling cybercrimes cases and delivery of services to citizens.”
HOW TO REGISTER A CYBERCRIME COMPLAINT?
File a complaint describing the whole incident in brief and attach the supporting documents. The FIR has to be submitted to the nearest police station, addressing the office in charge of that station, to take necessary actions.
Then, submit the following documents along with your complaint:
Social media gift fraud case
• Take a screen print of all the objectionable pictures, with URL visible and get it signed by the complainant.
• Take a screen print of every message related to the gift, with URL visible, and get it signed by the complainant. Give the money deposit slip to the bank and get it signed.
Online banking fraud case
• Firstly, the victim has to update his/her Bank Account passbook, provide a photocopy of the first page of the passbook where the name and account number are visible and the last page when the crime took place. Get it signed by the complainant.
ATM phishing fraud
• Note down the phone number from which the call came to give the ATM number and PIN.
• The victim has to update his/her Bank Account passbook, provide a photocopy of the first page of the passbook where the name and account number are visible and the last page when the crime took place. Get it signed by the complainant.
Lottery fraud case
• Provide the phone number in which the lottery message came and download the lottery message. Provide the money deposit slip in the bank and get signed.
ATM frauds by changing ATM card case
• The victim has to update his/her Bank Account passbook, provide a photocopy of the first page of the passbook where the name and account number are visible and the last page when the crime took place. Get it signed by the complainant.
