Sub-Inspector Arrested for Taking Rs. 50 Lakh Bribe in a Hawala Racket Case.

Gorakhpur: A police sub-inspector was arrested for embezzling 50 lakh rupees after confiscating 85 lakh rupees from a hawala operator during a routine check. The officer, in charge of the Beniganj police chowki, allegedly threatened the businessman with a fake ‘encounter’, allowing him to leave with only 35 lakh rupees. Following an investigation led by the Senior Superintendent of Police, raids were conducted at the officer’s premises, leading to the recovery of  some 44 lakh rupees. The sub-inspector has been suspended and arrested, and a thorough investigation has been ordered by the SSP.
