MIAMI: Janice Turner, mother of R&B singer Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for her role in a ₹8.35 crore ($1 million) luxury goods fraud conspiracy. The case stems from a scheme executed between late 2023 and early 2024, in which Turner and Kingston sent fake wire transfer confirmations to defraud multiple vendors of jewellery, luxury cars, and other high-end merchandise.

Repeat Offender with a Pattern of Fraud

This is not Turner’s first brush with the law — she previously served time for a 2006 bank fraud conviction. In her latest courtroom appearance, Turner claimed she committed the fraud to support her son’s music career. However, the judge emphasised the need for deterrence and accountability, rejecting her defence team’s request for leniency due to her age and health issues.

She has been sentenced to:

  • 60 months in prison

  • 3 years of supervised release

A restitution hearing is scheduled for October 2025, where the court will decide how to compensate the defrauded victims.
