A sudden viral video has led to the suspension of H.K. Kashyap, an official with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Sagar. The footage, which surfaced on social media and was picked up by NDTV, captures Kashyap using vulgar and disrespectful language towards the district’s IAS collector and the Zilla Panchayat CEO.

Disrespect Caught on Camera

In the video from a departmental meeting, Kashyap is heard shouting, “What is the worth of an IAS officer?”—a direct insult targeting the collector and district-level leadership. He also claimed his family’s influence, stating: “I have more than 15 doctors in my house; my son Gopal Kashyap is a singer with posters across Bhopal”—all delivered in an angry tone. The comments reportedly followed admonishments from senior officials, evidently provoking his outburst.

The recording quickly went viral, triggering uproar within media and administrative circles in MP. The disrespectful rhetoric was deemed a severe breach of civil service conduct and professional decorum. ()

Commissioner Acts Swiftly

Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat, acting under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, ordered Kashyap’s immediate suspension and removal from duty pending disciplinary inquiry. The action underscores the administration’s zero-tolerance approach to insubordination and disrespect towards senior officials. ()

Rawat remarked that such behaviour damages the credibility and discipline upheld by civil servants and that the government will take stern action in response to any further violations.

Administrative Fallout

News of the suspension quickly spread across Sagar’s administrative network, sparking debate among local officials and public service observers. While some praised the decisive response, others cautioned about internal tension, noting that the incident could reflect broader frustrations within state government ranks.

No further statements have been issued by Kashyap or his department regarding the pending inquiry.
