Root64 in association with Delhi Journalist Association and Press Club of India organised a conference on 14th February,2020 at Constitutional Club, New Delhi to discuss the Changing Paradigm of Journalism with Challenges in Cyberspace.
Hon’ble Member of Parliament Roopa Ganguly graced the occasion as chief guest.
Inderbir Singh IPS, Head Cyber Cell, Punjab Police, Ms Khushbu Jain, Advocate Supreme Court and Advisor to Maharashtra Cyber along with Mr. Amit Dubey, Author, Chief Mentor, Root64 Foundation were the key speakers in the event.
Mr. Anurag Punetha, News Anchor Loksabha TV and President, Delhi Journalist Association mentioned the need of such events to create awareness among journalist. He also specified the challenges due to Fake News and Deep Fake Vidoes in the field of journalism.
Mr. Inderbir Singh IPS, gave the simple tips to the Journalist to protect them from cyber crimes. He also spoke about the cyber crime reporting portal where any crime reported instantly irrespective of the location of the crime.
Advocate Khushbu jain addressed the issue of fake news, and need for such specific laws. Also, compared laws of different countries pertaining to fake news such a singapore’s Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Bill which makes spread of “false statements of fact” as illegal.
Ms. Khushbu jain also addressed that due to absence of law or procedure to restrain various fake news travelling on Social Media Platforms and messengers leads to crimes against humanity such as mob lynching, sedition, abetment to murder, riots, influence in elections among others. And, therefore the need of the hour is to frame the necessary guidelines and appropriate laws.
Mr. Amit Dubey showed techniques to check the fake news using tools at fast pace as the media industry is also getting affected by fake news and having such vast reach it is necessary for media to have grasp over such tools and techniques to check any material leading to fake news.
The event was specially organised for the fourth pillar of democracy and was successfully attended by the representatives from various media houses, including Senior Journalist from print, electronic and digital media.
